Hi and welcome! I’m Lisa and Dinners With Rob ™ is where I share some great recipes, memories, adventures, and anything else that I love and think you’ll enjoy discovering. I write, I cook, and I take pictures of delicious food in Toronto, Canada with my cat Ariel and sous-chef pup Hudson.
I’ve spent the last fifteen years working in advertising/marketing by day and indulging in my passion for food in my spare time. I recently decided to take the plunge and become a food blogger. It’s so exciting to talk about my food experiences online!
I love all sorts of foods. I try to cook things that are simple enough to make on a busy weeknight, healthy, and delicious. I also like to to throw in some dishes that are more suited for the weekend and may take a bit more time, but are totally worth it. I like Italian, Mexican French, Thai…I love it all!
Some of my favorite things in life are spinning, walking by the lake with my dog Hudson, making and eating great food with friends, fashion, movies, travelling, and discovering restaurants.
As a teen and in my early twenties, I lived in Italy for 5 years. That’s where I developed such a love and appreciation for good food, local ingredients and fresh tastes. I loved the nightly gatherings at the dinner table with friends and family, chatting about the day while eating some of the best food I’d ever had. When I moved back to Canada, I continued my love affair with food by having friends over for dinner and extensively exploring Toronto’s amazing restaurant scene.
When my adorable dog Hudson developed severe separation anxiety and it was no longer possible to leave him alone at home, the restaurant excursions dropped off.
I stepped up my cooking at home, learning new dishes and having people over more often for dinner. I also started getting a bag of organic produce delivered every week (Fresh City). I’d gained almost 20 pounds due to the hours at work and was on a quest to get healthy again 🙂 Getting produce delivered every week forced me to eat more of it and to try things I would not have bought otherwise. Even the small bag had a lot of produce for this single girl so I started having my friend Rob over for dinner every weekend to help eat my way through that week’s bag. We’ve been enjoying a weekly dinner at my place ever since. This blog chronicles these weekly dinners – mostly successes, but a few colossal fails too, which I hope you enjoy reading about. Our weekly dinners inspired me to try things during the week too. You’ll find some of these recipes here too. Happy cooking!
